Bald Eagles

Whidbey Island, Washington

July 2019

During our drive across Whidbey Island in Washington, we stopped at Fort Ebey State Park . Fort Ebey is an old World War 2 coastal defense gun battery with some beach area and lots of hiking trails. As soon as we left the parking lot we spotted a bald eagle roosting in a dead tree about 200 yards down the trail. Of course we tried to get a little closer. The dense forest concealed us until we were only about 60 yards away, still hidden by the brush. We had several minutes to take photos before the eagle decided to take off. Much to my surprise it flew straight at us and passed directly overhead.
