Shaffer Road from the Island in the Sky Overlook

The White Rim road is accessed from Shafer road. The top of the Shafer road in Canyonlands National Park begins near the Island in the Sky entrance at the north end of the park and drops down into the canyons to the white rock layer. The dirt road is a series of switchbacks that drop several hundred feet in elevation. There are not guard rails and passing on-coming traffic is a bit nerve wracking at times. Once down on to the white rock layer, the White Rim Road turns off from Shafer road on the White Rim.
