Autumn Wildlife 2018

Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming

October 2020

This year I wanted to go to the Grand Tetons National Park and try to get some photos of the bull elk during the rut and maybe some epic autumn landscapes. However, I wasn’t able to make it up there until the first week of October and the rut was mostly over with and the leaves had mostly fallen. There was still a lot of elk to be seen as they were coming down out of the mountains. Next year, I definitely want to get up the Tetons earlier in the fall.

I stopped to watch this herd of Pronghorn and was really intrigued by the behavior of the buck. He was running back and forth steering the direction of the herd and when a stubborn doe wandered off he would prance back and forth on his hind legs the way a cow dog does with cows. The more I watched the more cow dog like his behavior become apparent. I have never seen Pronghorn act this way and it was really interesting.

I found this nice cow moose grazing down in the river bottoms and managed to get a few shots between the trees. I also found a big bull moose earlier that morning but he was too far off to get a shot. I was all set up to get a sunrise picture of the Tetons or else I might have tried to get a little closer.

I found this little squirrel eating some nuts on the side of the trail and he stayed around long enough to get a few pictures.
