Red Fox Hunting

Bear River Bird Refuge

With fall coming and the migratory birds passing through, i went out to the Bear River Bird Refuge so see what visitors were staying there. The marsh was almost completely dried up with only a few of the ponds still having water. There were still quite a few birds but the highlight of the trip was this beautiful Red Tail Fox I found hunting for ground squirrels along the road. He would move along the edge of the road, sniffing out the burrows and then suddenly pouch and drive his snout into the burrow. The squirrel hunting must have been really good. I sat and watched him for quite awhile as he moved along the roadside. He didn’t seem at all concerned with me being there and I was able to get several close up shots. Finding this little guy really made my night.
